Volume 2 Number 6 - 09/1990 The Final Issue

The final and by far best issue of Gulf Coast SKATE Review. I had not planned or dreamed of ever stopping the 'zine, but every issue has a chance of being "the last" and this was the one. By now, JD, WIZ, SPIKE and I had met most of the skateboard industry big-wigs, picked-up some sponsors (remember, this was before the X-Games) and skated with most of the pros. Many of us were moving onto careers or marriages and I jumped ship all together and moved to Colorado to snowboard and save what was left of my knees!

NEXT ISSUE: Volume 2 Number 6 - 07/1990

Between working, skating and trying to keep a girlfriend happy, I had little time and money to publish GCSR on a bi-monthly basis. So I came-up with the idea of publishing a mini version of GCSR and calling it, NEXT ISSUE. -ADD MORE TEXT HERE-

Gulf Coast SKATE Review

A 1980s skateboard 'zine published by Don Cudney, Steven Jacobs, Jeff Dalton (JD), Shawn Thornton (WIZ) and many other writers and photographers spread-out along the Gulf Coast during the mid- to late- 1980s.

Gulf Coast SKATE Review was published from August of 1985 until September of 1990.

Take into account this was pre-desktop publishing, pre-photoshop and pre-digital photography. Many of the images in the first few issues were photographed with a disc camera and the film was processed in my bedroom closet. All aspects of the magazine had to be photographed with negative or slide film, processed and then cut-and-pasted into the magazine layout by hand. Time consuming and not very pretty at times.

A zine (an abbreviation of the word fanzine, or magazine; pronounced [ziːn], "zeen") is most commonly a small circulation, non-commercial publication of original or appropriated texts and images. More broadly, the term encompasses any self-published work of minority interest usually reproduced via photocopier on a variety of colored paper stock.
