Volume 2 Number 6 - 09/1990 The Final Issue

The final and by far best issue of Gulf Coast SKATE Review. I had not planned or dreamed of ever stopping the 'zine, but every issue has a chance of being "the last" and this was the one. By now, JD, WIZ, SPIKE and I had met most of the skateboard industry big-wigs, picked-up some sponsors (remember, this was before the X-Games) and skated with most of the pros. Many of us were moving onto careers or marriages and I jumped ship all together and moved to Colorado to snowboard and save what was left of my knees!

NEXT ISSUE: Volume 2 Number 6 - 07/1990

Between working, skating and trying to keep a girlfriend happy, I had little time and money to publish GCSR on a bi-monthly basis. So I came-up with the idea of publishing a mini version of GCSR and calling it, NEXT ISSUE. -ADD MORE TEXT HERE-

Volume 1 Number 1 - 08/1985 The First Issue

The very first issue. I am pretty sure the idea or concept for GCSR came about during a pot smoking, ditch skating and school skipping adventure with Steven Jacobs (RIP). Steven was an extremely talented artist and an extremely talented skateboarder. He needed an outlet for his artwork and I had boxes and boxes of 4x6 color prints of us skating and surfing. My father owned an office building which gave me access to several xerox copy machines and hundreds of x-acto knives and bottles of rubber cement. And we thought, hey, maybe this 'zine thing will get us into a party or two and possibly meet some punk rock girls at the same time. It worked!

TWS 08/89 - Southern Comfort

Late in 1988, Roger Bridges, Abe King(Tod Swank), Dan Estabrook and Pete Diantoni drove throughout the southeastern United States searching for skate spots to photograph and a little southern comfort. They found comfort on my living room floor and in my refrigerator on more than one occasion. The resulting TWS spread is a result of that trip. Check out the images of me and my bros on page 90 & 91. Dig that mustache, man!

TWS 08/89 - CHECK OUT: Scott Stanton

My first internationally published image and writing. I still wasn't pro (I didn't get paid) and I had no intentions of becoming one, but it made me feel pretty good to have my worked viewed by hundreds-of-thousands of subscribers. Up until then, I had only self-published in GCSR to a small circulation of 500 or less subscribers. Thank you, Swank!
